Our School Board
The School Board serves as the governing body for Pinon Community School and Black Mesa Community School, providing leadership, oversight, and vision in support of student learning and community well-being. As the school board, the two schools are united under a shared commitment to educational excellence, cultural respect, and responsible cultural stewardship.
The board is composed of appointed members from our local communities, chosen to represent the voices, values, and lived experiences of the families we serve. These community representatives play a vital role in ensuring that governance decisions are rooted in local knowledge, community priorities, and the long-term success of students. Their service reflects a deep dedication to strengthening schools through collaboration, accountability, and advocacy.
Central to the board’s work is a commitment to community representation and cultural stewardship. Board members honor and protect the cultural identity, heritage, and traditions of the communities connected to Pinon Community School and Black Mesa Community School. This stewardship guides decision-making and supports educational practices that respect culture, language, and history while preparing students to thrive in an ever-changing world.
The School Board works closely with school leadership to establish policies, provide oversight, and support programs that promote safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments. Through transparent governance and thoughtful leadership, the board helps ensure that academic programs, student services, and operational decisions align with the mission and values of each school.
By bridging community voice with educational leadership, the School Board plays a critical role in shaping schools where students are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and culturally. Their collective efforts help create learning environments that foster resilience, responsibility, and opportunity—today and for generations to come.
